When the Lotto’s winning numbers were called on Tuesday, October 15, a tradesman in Leumeah (south-west Sydney) got a pleasant shock after checking them online during his shift.
“I still wasn’t sure I’d won,” he revealed, “so I called my daughter and asked her to check the numbers and she said to me, ‘Oh my god, Dad, I think you’ve won!’ As soon as she said that, I just walked out from work. I didn’t say anything. I was just thinking, ‘Oh my god.’”
The lucky winner was the only winner from Division One this time (though tenth for the year), so he gets to take the full $50 million home (minus taxes).
He asked to remain anonymous, but revealed his plans for the money: buy a home near the sea and spend his time fishing and playing golf with his friends and family.
He also has zero intentions of returning to his job as a tradesman.
“But money is not everything to me,” he added. “My friends and family mean more to me than money, so I want to use it wisely and I want to share it with them.”
